New LS / Existing LS

I am wanting to add some new live sand to my exsisting LS as well as some new mud/grunge to my existing fuge.

My question is what is the proper method of incorperating the new with the old. Do you just pour it over the old or do you pour it on and gently mix it with the top layer of the old. My concern was for the bacteria and critters living in the existing sand and how to protect them while adding the new sand.

Just add it to the top of the existing sand but do not add more than 1/2 to 1" at a time so the existing critters can readjust to the deeper sand bed. You don't want to barry something that can not dig out.

Thanks! Thats what I was worried about, so I will only add a minimal amout at one time.
