hundreds, maybe thousands. I'm pretty sure that not everyone with a reef aquarium is online. Why do you wanna know?

not to mention even if they all were on a fourm, there are countless fourms just like reef central that some might prefer over this one

Your reef hobby isn't the first conversation you have with people. Most people could care less about keeping corals. I am surprised how many people I work with have overheard me say something about my tank to someone, and started describing theirs.

Whatever the current count is add one more. My new lighting system is functional and I'll be ordering some SPS in the coming weeks on my way towards a full reef system.

According to Wikipedia, .8% of American households own saltwater fish, making it the least popular "pet" in America.

^ I think it is million not percent
"Animal Number of U.S. households that own a pet (millions) Total number of pets owned in the U.S. (millions) Bird 6.4 16.0 Cat 38.4 88.3 Dog 44.8 74.8 Equine 4.3 13.8 Freshwater fish 14.2 142.0 Saltwater fish 0.8 9.6 Reptile 4.8 13.4 Small animal 6.0 24.3 "

If it is percent then around 2,408,000 people have saltwater fish

Thanks, Flying Dutchman, et al. I am new to this whole thing, and it blows me away that there are so many people doing this! It looks like a PERFECT hobby for an obsessive like myself who can't see to keep money in his pocket for long! I will probably pester you all with questions, and may be some day show you the results. Thanks, again!

There is 175929 on RC alone.

Your more than welcome
Remember that the key for this hobby is to take it slow, and always research you fish and coral before buying. You most certainly will regret most impulsive buys. And never trust the LFS for advice, overall they are a business and they just want to make money out of you.
And one more thing, you'll love this hobby!
