View Full Version : Will kalk separate in water?

Just curious, if I made a big bucket of kalk, heck even if I didn't saturate it, would it eventually settle out or anything? Just trying to understand the need for a kalk "reactor", or more to the point, if a kalk reactor is needed to dose kalk.

If it does separate/settle what sort of time period would I need to remix it?

No you do not have to have a Kalk reactor. Many do as you have suggested and just drip it in. If it produces any settled Kalk most dump that part out. Just use the clear water in the container.

So once you mix it up it pretty much stays in the water column? I was thinking of going with a rather diluted mixture (since I do have quite a bit of top off to do), to save wear and tear on any equipment... how does pH affect peristaltic tubing?

It will hold it's strength in solution for weeks.

Here is an article by Randy on it:

I prefer to use a still reservoir with a dosing pump rather than a kalk reactor.

Mike the # 1 use for peristaltic tubing and pumps is just that, Kalk :)

Yes, as long as the container is NOT over-saturated.
