View Full Version : Should I be worried?

I just found out my girlfriend has used my "skimmer collection cup sponge" to clean the sink using Comet in the past. How concerned should I be? I know the most risk would be if the skimmer cup overflows, but I have a float switch to prevent that.

Where does this sponge reside in the system? Mine doesn't have a sponge.

Sorry for not being clear... I meant the sponge I use to clean out my skimmer cup has also been used with Comet cleaner. I'm thinking (hoping) any cleaning chemical residues on the sponge would be so diluted it wouldnt matter.

I would toss the sponge and get a new one.

I agree. Just get a new sponge. What hits the collection cup in my system cannnot get back into the tank, but that might not be true in every system, and sponges are cheap. :)

FWIW, I use only my fingers and tap water to clean my skimmer. :)

It wasnt the sponge I was worried about :)

And even with gloves, I dont wanna touch the gunk in that collection cup!

OK, I wouldn't worry about any contamination that might already be in the tank as there is little you can do about it now anyway. :D
