I have seen several threads regarding notching glass to facilitate an external overflow box.
I am planning to do the same on an end pane of my 130 gallon.
According to the attached diagram, which option would you utilize and why?
I want to ensure maximum stability and not lower the intregrity of my glass.
Thanks.

The cutout method will produce fewer stress areas that could cause panel failure. Do it right and use a diamond saw, not a dremel. Round the inside corners (drill them first with a diamond hole saw).

I have a question. How long is the cutout? And by end panal you mean one of the shorter ones correct? I'm thinking about doing this to my new 75 that I'm building and will be using your overflow Bean on it with an external overflow. I was planning on making 2 12" slots that are set 8" apart, which also means they will be 8" from the end panals. I figure with 8" of center support glass not cut out, it will greatly help in keeping the glass's structural integrety.
Now that I think about it more, there isn't much pressure on the glass at the top of the tank. I might have to go with one big cutout.

There is less pressure at the top of the tank, but at the same time it is subjected to more defelction because of the open top. You will be concetrating all of the force to a small area where the center brace attaches. Take a look at the tank built by glassreef for ideas :)

I posted this shortly after posting here. Uncleof6 has a rendering at the end that shows a good alternative to a long slot. Most likely this is what I will be going with.
