View Full Version : Mushrooms and Zoas

Hello all.. I have a 150 reef with about 350 lbs of live rock it its about 4 months old everything is going great with it. However, I have quite a few mushrooms and zoas in it. The mushrooms dont seem to be spreading out (I have read they can be a problem by doing that) but I do have them scatterd out in a few places in the tank but they are attached to large pieces of rock that cant be moved or removed and I would like to keep them together in one area... Can I some how remove them from their current rock and put them on a diffrent one without killing them?

Next question, I seem to have colonies of Zoas poping up and just a few random ones.. I wouldnt care but I dont want just random Zoas so same question for them?

Please let me know some techniques for moving them please.. If ther is such a thing?

Just give them some time - they will spread fairly quickly assuming water quality is good. I had 2 zoa frags (Eagle Eyes and Horizons) go from 5 polyp frags to over 50 in abou 3 months. Be careful what you wish for with the mushrooms - they are great growers, and will eventually overgrow everything if left unchecked.

Ummmm... K. Let me clarify what I was getting at. I have plenty and they are growing very well... too well, so I am wondering how to consolidate them without killing them off. How to move them from one rock to another.

you sure these are actually zoathid polyps and not some unholy evil aka aiptasia right? :hammer:

Yeah, I am sure... Scared me at first though... I am not that good with names yet I get everything confused, and I didnt know what "unholy evil aka aiptasia" was! I know them as glass Anemone (I have heard the correct name I just forgot it, I went though that s*it with my first tank).. Anyways, yes they are Zoas... Do you know how I can move them or do I have to kill em off?
