Meg 12 Vs. Quiet one 5000 or other

I was wanting to add more flow throw my sump and was thinking on one of these pumps. I was using a Quiet one 4000 but it got a short in it so I temporally replaced it with a spare pump I had laying around and it needs to be replaced asap as there is almost no flow going through my sump right now. Have any of you used one of these pumps? How do you like it? I will need about 7 to 8 ft. of head. Will one of these pumps handle that or should I go bigger. My tank is a 125 with about a 60 gallon sump. What ever pump I use must be submersible. as I have no room for a external pump. Can a valve be used to adjust flow if I went to a bigger pump? I am sorry for all the questions but I want to get this right the fist time and I know that there are quite a few very knowledgeable people on here that should be able to give me some good advice
Thanks so much for all your help

mag 12 and with 7' to 8' head height i dont think you would need a valve to control flow. i have two mag 12's on my 120g w/ 55g sump w/6' of head.

Do you use the 2 mag 12's for flow on your 120? Do you have any other power heads in your tank?

Shane thanks for the reply My QO4000 was a great pump it was about 6 years old before I had to replace it. I Just think I need more flow throw my sump. Do you know how much flow you are getting out of it. How high is the head on it.
Thanks

why so much flow through the sump? it was my understanding to match your return to the capabilities of your skimmer so that you're processing as much water through the skimmer as is being returned to your tank.

guess you could just throw a gate valve on the return line and match it that way, though.

I use a single mag 12 with my return on my 120, unthrottled. It's pretty quiet and has been running solid for over a year. I keep a backup mag 12 on hand for when it comes time to replace it. I don't know if there's a significant difference in sound between the pumps, but they are both pretty quiet when used as submersibles.

I have 4 foot of head. I would guess I am at abot 400gph. I prefer a slower flow through my sump. I supplent with K4s for additional in tank flow. As someone mentioned above I try to match my flow closer to my skimmer than anything.

two mag 12's for return pumps, a maxi-jet 1200 with mod and a k-4 for more flow. i use to use a rio 2100 and a rio1400 as returns with a vortech MP40 and two maxi-jet 1200's w/mods in tank.

i do have a quick turn over rate. tank to sump and back to tank. i like flow, help keep things clean. power heads are on a wavemaker.
