Was wondering what a good height(off the water) would be to keep 250w mh's. Either 10-14k's. Somewhat mixed tank. Primarily sps though

you could keep them pretty high, only because the 40breeder is pretty shallow, so you dont have to penetrate the water too far.

Have mine about 7-10 inches above the water.

id have to concur.. 7-10 inches.. if you have not got the light yet you could go with a 175 watt mh and the same 7-10 inches and you would be fine

I already have the lights. Been in storage for a couple months. They used to be in my 45g.

I have my 250w 14 inches high but will be moving it down to 10 inches in the very near future.

I was kind of thinking somewhere around 8-10 inches. Maybe for the 2 lights I'll go with 10.

I have two 250W 14K MH's in Lumenarc mini reflectors. The bulbs are 11" over my 40 breeder. I have a torch coral, malu and haddoni anemones, and a few small stony coral frags. They all seem to like this light. I have a red open brain that bleached while on the bottom of the tank but fully exposed to the light. I moved it to a corner to see if it recovers. I'll probably need to find it some shade. HTH.

I have 2 - 250s over my 50 gallon breeder. 11 inches off the water.

Maybe I'll go in the 10-12 range that way I can lower them if I need to.

I am going 12 above my 40 breeder with a 250 MH 20K bulb.

I have 1 250 at 8" above the water. I think 6" would be the minimum you would want to go. It works well for me. And I like the Hamilton 14k. JMO
