I think a tank should be proportionate to the room it sits in (size and shape) not the overall square footage of the house.

LOL.... 750 gallon tank, 300 gallon sump,225 gallon water change/diluter tank.. and coming soon, the sunlit fuge... should be around 1500 gallons

I didn't go quite as large as Khaos... 360 gallon tank in my living room (1600 sqft 2-level house) and the halides make the entire ground floor glow blue from the street. I've got an unfinished basement, so the 150g rubbermaid sump, upcoming 100g seagrass tank / refugium, etc are all out of the way and don't really count for sq. footage ;) Total system volume when everything is done will be about 700 gallons. I wish I could have gone bigger, but the living room is only so large and the 8' x 3' footprint was about all I could fit in the space that I had set aside for the tank itself.

2600 square foot house - 500G system.

A 140 square foot room dedicated exclusively to tank equipment for a through the wall display... that room, somewhat visible from an adjacent park, glows day and night from frag, sump and tank lighting. To avoid an unexpected late night visit from men in black with DEA on their clothing, called the local PD to let them know I was growing coral, not hemp! :fun4:

My tanks are in a dedicated "Wet room", laundry & fish tanks :D but the room is approximatley 25 x 16 with a 180g tank + sump, and a 80g tank + sump, and a 20g tank + sump.

oh i was just askin cuz was wonderin would it be funny to have a 120 x 36 x 30 sized tank in my back wall in office room on bottom story the office room size is 15 x 20 .tats the only place i think i can put it. just wonderin if it would look funny cuz its almost takin up the whole 15' wall

Well that's a good size room so it might look really nice. I ended up getting a deeper tank (front to back) than I originally wanted because I got a great deal on a used tank. It's 96x34x26" but has an external overflow so will stick out from the wall about 40". I originally wanted a ten footer that only stuck out 20".

I think it will work out though because the room is 18x19 and open to the second story. It's also completely open to the kitchen and kitchen eating area. I think with the size of the room, openess of the floorplan and two story ceiling the tank will look proportionate and not overwhelming.

Anyway I don't know why I rambled so much. It's just a design thing with me. I really enjoy decorating so it's important to me to have the tank work with the decor and proportions of the room. I only wish I could put this one in the wall like the last one but it didn't work out that way in the new house.

I cut out a wall and turned my garage in to a fish room. My house is bordering on a petting zoo and I'm a 38 year old batchlor so I might not be the best person to ask. If I could go wall to wall tank I would.

But then I've been accused of being obsessed with fish.
