I bought a orange diamond goby yesterday, and the little guy was fine. He found a place to hide and would poke out his head once in a while. Then today I couldn't find him, so I moved around my LR and nothing. I checked around my tank in case he jumped, and no signs what so ever. Where could he have gone?

Check your overflow or anywhere else he could have jumped to. Otherwise, he's probably just hiding under a rock.

they can hide very well, mine jumped though, I found him dried up about 4 feet from my tank, guess he was good at carpet surfing

I checked everywhere, nothing. I checked my LR, looked around, in the holes and stuff of the LR, nothing. My sandbed isn't that deep so that isn't an issue of him burrowing or anything like that in an inconspicuous place. Not in overflow or anything like that....just disappeared.

They love the overflows. Can he fit down into the plumbing??? Do you have a cat??? Or dog??? They will pick a fish up quick. Also I would look in everyspace within 10 feet of the tank. I once had a client find a fish about 12 feet away from his tank. The only possible conclusion was that it flopped that far.

I do have a dog, so hmm, possible, that a dog will eat a raw dead fish?

Ya the dog could have eaten it, but its kind of rare to even see a goby swimming at the top of the tank let alone to leap out. I almost guarantee he is just hiding very well. They can fit themselves into little crevices in the rocks and just stay there. Just give it time and make sure you watch when you feed. I'm willing to bet you'll see him pop out eventually.

I always thought goby's were well known jumpers? Its wierd because they are always hanging out at the bottom of the tank, in rocks, in sand, but mine jumped within a couple days from my open top tank.

They are, especially the diamond goby. However, they don't normally jump once they settle into their homes unless something is bothering them. My diamond goby rarely came above 2-3" off the sand.
With that said... he jumped onto the center glass brace and cooked himself just a week or two ago.

I agree to just give it a few days. How extensive is your clean up crew? Maybe it passed away overnight and they ate it up. :sad2:

The first 2 days I had mine, I had to fetch him out of the sump twice. Then I made a screen for my drain pipe and he hasn't been in the overflow (that I know of) since.

Mine jumped out the night I brought him home. Hope yours turns up soon. Like someone else said, leave the tank alone and maybe he will get comfortable enough to come out in a few days. If he is hiding/scared the more you mess with the rocks the more scared and nervous he will get.

I guess one way to tell is to see if your sand is getting turned over. If it isn't, the fish may be dead and dispatched by the cleanup crew. Hopefully it's hiding out.

Orange diamond gobies are notorious jumpers. If they're in an open top tank and haven't shown up in a few days it's very likely they've jumped.

I had one and he jumped. Bummed me out. He was my wife's favorite fish. No more gobies for me.
