I'm starting my 24g nano and was wondering what rock to use. I do plan to use live sand to get the tank cycled faster. Should i go with dry or live rock?

If you can, start with live rock. It will help your tank inhabitants.

live rock for sure you tank will cycle much much faster. and get cheatomorpha algae that is the most reliable algae to absorb unwanted nutrients such as amonia, nitrates, and nitrites.

Where do I put the cheto in my tank? I have a JBJ 24g nano cube. I totaly agree it will help though.

I've got 15 lbs live rock coming in tomorrow and 16 lbs dry rock coming in the day after for my 28g nano. If needed, I have 9 lbs of LR from the LFS in a bucket of saltwater.

I'm a newbie too so don't take my word for it. I did save $60 by combining rock for my 28g instead of going with all live rock.

When I set up my tank I used half live rock and half dry rock. I tried to find some larger dry rock pieces to use as base rock and then I stacked the live rock on top of it. The dry rock became live rock within a few months.

If you are patient, you can go almost all dry rock. This is my preference as you get no unwanted hitchikers. Some like them since there are plenty of good ones but I try to avoid them all together.
