sand depth?

what is the general recomendation for sand depth? im thinking about getting a Melanurus wrasse.

Totally up to you. I have sand diving wrasses (leopards) and they are happy with 1.5 inches and up. They seem to care about the substrate more than the depth. I would not get anything too coarse.
