A tank for full grown garden eels with proper sand depth will need to be around 100 gallons. A 30 gallon tank with an 8 inch sandbed probably won't give an adult enough room to come out of its burrow without sticking its head above the water.

They are really cool fish and can make an amazing display in a properly sized/maintained tank.
