They are looking fantastic! So glad everyone is eating so well! Is the one with the missing second dorsal spine eating as well as the other now? BTW, does the spine look like it will grow back? I kinda like that it makes them easily distinguishable :)

There all fighting for food , i think they'll handle the anthias in the DT very well lol. I can't tell if it will grow back or not, i'm not too concerned about it... Honestly it just helps me tell the difference between them since there exactly the same size. Having these fish reminds me of how cool it is to have butterfly's in pairs. One will go searching for the other if they loose sight of each other. The sudden panic ... it's sooo adorable.

Beautiful fish. :D
Always wondered though, do the Tinkers pair swim together all the time? Or do they each do their own thing and only swim together occasionally?

Beautiful fish. Were they sold as a pair and how can you tell the male from the female? Or does it really matter if you just put them together and let them figure it out?
Just curious, how big is your QT? I am running one too and wonder if it's too small.

Kenny, they were collected as a pair from what I was told. He is using a 60g QT with WM H2 skimmer. The longnose butterflies, were not collected as a pair, and act differently with each other than the tinker's, from what I observed when I was over there.

Thanks Peter. I am always interested in seeing the distinguishing characteristics between males/females. Some fish you can tell readily but others not very much so. I wished I had more room for a bigger QT but I am stuck with my little 16G cube. At least I have the Deltec MCE300 on it.

Smaller QT's are easier, actually, IMO, if you have to change water often during meds.

That's what I keep telling myself  But it gets tricky when you try to QT a 5"+ fish or multiple fish at the same time.
Sorry for the hijack!!! Back to talk about these beautiful fish. I myself am actually thinking about a couple of declivis but not sure about the pairing thing.

yeah the 60G QT is trouble , considering i have meds in there now. Fortunatly, my prop tanks & system is quite large and i can pull 60G of water from it as needed, so i can add water that's been in a system for a bit instead of dumping fresh mix. But 60G, is quiet a bit of trouble. And these were infact collected as a pair, you can really tell as you can see the interaction between the two, it's really really cute ... Unfortunately , i can't tell the difference between male and female, and between the two the only difference is the broken spike >.<
