View Full Version : HELP! Identify Algae that is killing my SPS

Guys I need some help pronto... I have this algae that i dont know what it is killing my sps... Its this brownish red junk that attaches itself to the tips of my sps and then the tissue underneath it starts dying... it really attaches itself too.. you cant just blow it off with a turkey baster... its already killed a milli of mine and now its trying to kill my tri color... i dunno what to do... pics arent very good but will give you an idea... HELP!

Poor water parameters are killing your sps, not the algae. The algae is growing on parts of the coral that have already died.

Looks like ur right... i tested my alk and it was crazy low... ill be raising it slowly over the next few days

As well - that sort of die off and algae growth do not occur overnite...you might want to pay more attention when checking over the tank.
It is easy to get "lazy" ( speaking from experience here) and just glance over things when feeding. But - it is ALWAYS a costly mistake...sooner or later, we all pay for that.
Take a few minutes each day to really look at everything in the tank. You may be amazed what you begin to notice! new animal life.....growth...etc.
And - don't be bashful about asking for help here. A lot of very knowledgeable folks that are always willing to help
