Is this a good idea? Are there any other options for a 5 gal tank? I found a 25w heater at DFS, but I'm sure it's glass...

you could go with one of those hang on filters with the built in heater. Or perhaps put a sump on the nano?
drill holes in a peice of PVC and then put it around the heater

Man I never would've thought of that! I'll probably do that if I can hide easily enough...but keep them coming anyways!

I have a glass heater in my mantis tank, and my mantis keeps seeing the heater light at night and cracking at it. I'm definately going to do the same with the PVC pipe.

i have a glass heater in my mantis tank, and my O. s. doesn't pay it any attention at all. maybe it just depends on the mantis?
Mine are all metal. My mantis is too small to crack a glass one but I have had one crack in a malfunction. Walmart has these small heaters for small tanks.
