So I have a 40 gallon breeder that I recently put a 2x150 Watt metal halide with 2x65 watt actinic lighting. So far my corals like my hammer and xenia are doing very well under it as I can tell a they are somewhat larger. I am going to be trying to keep all kinds of coral and wanted to know if this is too much lighting or if there is such a thing? Also thoughts on nassarius snails as Clean up crew I have three to help stir up the sand bed. And my last question regards the use of distilled water can I use it instead of R/O thanks all.

First off, your lights are probably perfect for keeping a mixed reef. A 40breeder is pretty shallow, I have one, and you could grow sps on the bottom with that setup. I do with 4 t5's. Some softies and low light lps may need to be put in the shadier spots, but thats not really a big deal. As for the nassarius, it depends how deep your bed is, how big your bioload is and how heavily you feed. If it starts to look like you need more, than throw a couple of more in. And finnaly, yes you can use distilled water, however, in the long run it is cheaper to buy an ro unit from someone like Bulkreefsupply.com and make your own. You also have the security of being sure it is well made and clean.
