I was looking at the aquactinics constellation 7 bulb but its pricey. Would the 6x54w 48" TEK be good for SPS dominated 75g?

I know there are a lot of different opinions out there so here is mine.

I have had PC's, DE 150W MH's (in an all in one light fixture), T5's (in the exact Tek light you are lokoing at) and 250W MH's SE.

By far, and I mean FAR, my SPS look the best, grow the best and are the happiest (my opinion) with the 250w MH's.

What I got was from reefspecialty. It's the 250W Lumenbright Fixtures (Mini's). with the dimmable ballasts and 250W SE Reeflux bulbs.

I have 3 over my SPS dominated 125g. I only run the lights 7 hours per day. I would guess 2 over your 75g would be good. I still have my Tek light over my 75g frag tank. It's ok but I would not do it again.

FYI - Total electrical use is similar to the T5's because I run them longer. This was my orginal reason to buy T5. The other thing it the Lumenbrights hang 15" off the tank. It makes it much easier to get access to the tank.

Hope this helps.

in a word...yes it would be fine. just add some fans to keep the bulbs cool so they will last longer.

I have the same fixtures, and I have not tried any SPS yet. But the LPS has been thriving in my tank as long as I keep them on for the required amount of time. I love the lights, it doesn't get too hot!

I thought about metal halide but 2 250w would get too hot for my tank. In south Texas the heat could get up to above 100 easy and the house is kept at 80 to 78. My reef wil get as hot as 83 or 85 in the summer with just 2 150w lights. Its a difficult decision

I would bump up to the ATI Sunpower then. Its not too much more than the tek light.

A 6 bulb t-5ho unit will let you grow anything in a 75 if you are using a good unit (individual reflectors, etc.) and good bulbs (ATI, Geissman, KZ etc.).

im looking at either the constellation or the ATI sunpower, i think id rather have the constellation since ive seen people having problems with their power modules, that and one more bulb option in the constellation.

anyone know where i could get the constellation? I don't want to deal with hanging the fixture since i cant

I ran the tek 4 bulb 36" unit over my 46 bowfront and had amazing color and growth from my sps / lps / softies, I LOVED the sps growth with that light, so I would definately say the 6 bulb unit over a 75 would work extremely well with lower heat. I run 3x 250w MH's over my 180 and the heat is insane, 80degrees in its 60 outside, my poor chiller is having to run in the winter :/ gay.
