If i were to get this 150watt MH light fixture for my 29g, would i need a chiller? It seems with the legs that it would come pretty close to the water. I need to know asap cuz i found a great deal on it. Thanks guys!

I am running a Current Sunpod 150 watt mh over my 29 gallon Biocube. My temps are staying between 78-79 degrees. I have a fan blowing across the top of the tank though which helps.

There are always ways to minimize the heat input of lighting (open top, >12 inches of air between light and water, fans, more water volume, or chiller). 29 gallons isnt very much water and heat may be an issue.

my tank is open top, and there will be about 6inches of air between the light and the water. What you guys think, should i got for it?

I have a 150w MH on my JBJ 28g tank, but it is a closed top. When I started it last summer temperatures went as high as 85 so I bought a chiller. If you have an open top you can probably control it with a fan, but that will cause tons of evaporation, so be prepared to top off daily.

If its a really good deal you should go for it, but realize that you may have heat issues that you will have to deal with (read spend more money on) that eats into how good of a deal it actually was.

I think you'll be okay, if it's that good of a deal go for it.....I have 2x250W metal halides & 4 T5's about 8" over my 46 bowfront & my temp stays at about 80 deg on average.....may be different come summer time but right now it's all good.....
