It is a box with a controllable stream setup to be used with the quick on off pulses the included controller sets the pump to quickly flushing the contents of the box and then refilling while it is off.

Yes, you would only need one, but you need additional flow sources, the wavebox creates a wave which will lift and suspend and add flow, but directional current is also usually required.

so if i don't want to use the box and take the pump out the box,,does it work the same?

The principle and effect would be similar but the box magnifies the pumps performance because the box is being emptied and filled like a surge bucket. A pump alone will typically produce about 1/3rd the wave that the box would.

wow ok so if i set up a new tank 60x32x24 pennisula
in order to hide powerhead i am thinking one wavebox on each coner of 60" wall
would that be enough or too much?
or
should i go with 4x 6105?
what do you think? thanks

I would go to youtube and check out some of the numerous wavebox videos. The wavebox in general should be used with some flow pumps and not instead of. The ideal for this tank would be a single 6215 wavebox and 2 6105 pumps and if you wanted to get fancy you could get the 7096 multicontroller which will run a wavebox so you could instead by a 6215.500 wavebox extension which is a wavebox with no controller, since the 7096 will control it.

Also, the 6215 should be within a foot of centered on the 32" wall with a minimum of obstructions.
