Am I just imagining things, or does hyposalinity greatly decrease a protein skimmer's ability to work? It seems as though there are far fewer bubbles produced, and what is produced is generally larger in size. Are a salinity of 1.009 and efficient skimming inconsistent? Or, did dropping the salinity down, plus removing waste in the process, cause the skimmer to crap out?

I don't know why this happens, scientifically speaking. But you can be assured skimmer efficiency will drop with lower salinity. Try putting a skimmer in fresh water and you'll see how useless it is; it will just produced large bubbles and skim nothing. So yeah, the more you drop salinity the less bubbles and skimming.

Yes the salinity will affect the skimmers performance
