Appears a tank mate took a bite off it. What other livestock you have in tank? Could try and cover clam with perforated clear plastic cover (i.e. 1/2 large soda bottle) while it recovers and you identify and remove culprit.

No new tank mates.....
I guess we will have to make something out of egg crate to protect it.

We set up a hospital tank yesterday.
The clam looks worse this morning.

Could a brissle worm do this damage?

We don't think the clam is going to make it..
This is what the clam looks like this afternoon.

Sorry, what other fish and inverts where on tank? Did you check for any plagues at night under the clam that could be attacking it when healthy? Once they are dead or dying, most cleaning crew and fish usually turn on them and pick them to pieces.

We don't 2-part dose, we have a CR...
We noticed a large bristle worm under it when we moved it from the DT to the QT..
We removed it from the worm from the DT it was appx. 11" long !
Yesterday morning when I was doing my daily look at the DT I noticed a LONG something on the back of the tank, it was another bristle worm, about 18" long! I screamed like a girl and reached in with the pincher's and threw it in the sink! It was so large it would not go down the drain holes... so I grabbed a plastic cup filled it with fresh water and put the worm in the cup....
I showed Ed and my daughter they both said OMG!
we think these worms had something to do with the clams demise.....

Sorry about the clam, bristle worms normally don't mess with a healthy clam.I have a 10'' to 11'' worm in the rock near my clams. If being picked on by a fish that would cause the clam to withdraw into the shell. What else do you have in the tank, fish, crabs

Sandy, Bristle worms could not have caused the clam to die, any changes in the tank?
