Is a K 2 too much for a 20H? Dimensions= 24''x12''x18'' or something.

I am just wondering if it may be too much for my inverts or something.

I had a k2 in a 20 high and found that as long as I had the cap on the nose to narrow the flow then it was perfect but just letting it blow everywhere was a bit much and I had to play with the direction and positioning.

That being said I wish I had done two k1s instead for that tank. I think one k1 on each side of the tank would have been perfect peaceful flow, plus it would have been 800gph instead of 650 from a k2.

If it's your first tank, get the k2 and put the flow restrictor cap on it. I say that because like me and many of us, you will get addicted and go bigger on your tank within a year. Then you will kick yourself because k1s in a larger tank are like spitting in the wind.

Unless you plan on only keeping soft coral, the K2 is perfect. :)

I don't have the flow cap on it (couldn't figure the thing out). Maybe i will put it on and play with the positioning. Is it better to point it upwards or aim it just across the tank?

30x turnover per hour is a good exchange rate

Hah, I figured the flow funnel out. Now I just have to play with where it is pointing. Thanks for the tips. I plan on keeping SPS in a few months once i get the hang of the water chemistry and stuff. I think I will have enough flow for all types of corals and a clam eventually.

Also, I can't upgrade atm as I am space restricted and my gf doesn't even like fish (scared of them) so I don't an upgrade will happen soon :(

Gotcha. The cap just snaps on the end of the k2. Point it into your live rock for maximum filtration. About 3/4 up the tank and into your live rock for positioning is best.

20gallon is a good size for a nano reef with one fish. Consider getting a Nemo clown. She will love it's cuteness and of the only fish, that clown will love the 20gallons to itself loaded with corals.

Actually, she is prolly one of the only girls who doesn't like clowns, though she likes gobies. Thanks for the advice though!

Get a sandsiftibg goby. Great asset for keeping your sandbed clean.
