im trying to decide on what kind of lighting i should use for a build that might be coming up. tank dimensions are 96*36*30 and i was wondering if (4) 250w halides with lumen bright 3 reflectors would be strong enough. sps will be placed midway and upper portions of tank. if i need to go 400w, i will. but if i dont need to, it would be nice to save a lil on electric, and use the right tool for the job.

thanks!

250's will be plenty with the lumenbright reflectors

I have used 250 HQIs with good success

the 250s will be good, if you would like to be able to hang the lights higher to reduce heat and give you more work room, then you may want to consider the 400s. A nice think about a deeper tank is that you can acclimate corals to you lighting by placing them deep in the tank and moving them up.

I am using two 250s on my 30" tall tank (48" wide) and my SPS are very happy. Light from the 250s does not have any problem reaching the bottom of the tank. It's a nice look.

if you could find everything in 230v you actually run much more efficent than with 120V more V = less Amps but for an answer i run 2) 250w on a 48*30*30
