I recently drilled a 30 gal in the top corner attached a box for overflow,1" drain down to the sump,my problem is that its too noisy there is not enough space inside the overflow box for a durso standpipe system,so the water flows over the top of the box and through the bulk head, any ideas???pictures are coming soon as my son gets home to show me how to work the cam!!

Do this - an external variation of Bean's silent/safe overflow.

Simple fix is this, take the 90 that you have coming from the bulkhead and put a T in its place. This will quit your gurgle cause it will pull air from behind tank and break your gurgle siphon sound Just put a T in and put a couple inch pipe in that goes to an inch or so higher than the rim of your tank on top and your pipe to return out the bottom. Good Luck

I had a similar setup. Brian is right, replace the 90 with a T with one end pointed up and the other down. Run PVC up above the water level and put a cap on it. Drill a small hole in the camp. if you want, you may be able to put a threaded male 90 in the overflow box and thread it into the bulkhead. This will keep the water intake below the water line in the overflow.
