This totally blows, but that is life in the world of reefing. Sometimes despite our best efforts and the finest, most stable environment individuals don't make it.
Today, my gold teardrop maxima made the voyage to Valhalla. While in my care he enjoyed an adopted reef rich in calcium, alk. etc, and basked in MH light.
When I made the commitment of caring for this 5inch beauty I knew by the condition of the byssus that his collection had been traumatic, but I was romanced by the amazing color and size of this tremendous animal. In the end I think it was a combination of the aforementioned damage and the pestering of our old foe- Tathrella sp snails as I found a trio of the little parasites this morning near the mantel. Believe me I am on total watch for my other clams and their safety and my six line is on notice...
Raise a glass my fellow clam peoples, here he is in his former glory next to his crocea tankmate-
