I have had my hippo and purple for 4 months together now, they are doing real good to each each, I am a big fans to tangs, what type of tang can I add to go with them?

Another question is, what is the black tang there?

Maybe a Ctenochaetus binotatus?

Good luck adding another tang, out of the 3 purple tangs I've owned they are all of them became VERY aggressive after they were established and would attack anything that was added after them.

I wonder who's tank that is there...

I'd recommend a tank no less than 180 gallons (6'x2'x2') for three tangs (when one of which includes a purple or something else just as aggressive)

maybe a powderblue. What ever you do, don't add the same body shape as the purple tang.

Straying from the same body shape is very advisable. When I mix tangs it's always a combo like Hippo+Sailfin, or Naso+Yellow. HOWEVER powder blues can be quite aggressive too, and need a lot of room to boot. What size tank do you have?

Here's a couple good links from RC's reef fish section:

I was always told if you go with a yellow it must be last, all at the same time.

The tank is from the Atlantis Aquarium at NY LI. I have them both only in a 65G with few smaller fishes, still thinking for a upgrade or not now to a 120G, depends on if I can find a used tank cheap or not. I am really looking for a Achille Tang.

That was just the title of the sticky thread. I linked it because it has a lot of info on mixing tangs and tank size reqs.

Even if you were to upgrade to a 120 (I have one and love the dimensions), you wouldn't be able to keep more than your hippo and purple in it. As it is, that 65gallon is going to be trouble for both of them down the line as they grow.

As for Achilles tangs (beautiful fish), they need an extraordinary amount of room for their size due to their hyperactivity. Some aquarists recommend a tank no less than 8' long with high flow!!

I admire your ambition, but please don't squeeze tangs. Tangs are only beautiful when they are happy and healthy, you only wind up with sickly, diseased ones when you cram them. (oh and death, did I mention expensive death?)

Yeah we're kind of posting around each other before the boards register the updates.

i have a hippo and a powder blue tang in my 90 gal. blue hippo is about 4 years old. and i just added my powder last week. both are doing well and they are not even battling at all. i wont be adding anymore tangs thou because of the size of the tank.
