This is my first post ever, so I'm not sure if I'm doing it right or in the right place. Basically, my midas blenny was being chased by my ocellaris clown and leaped into the overflow. Now I can't get him out. I was hoping this had happened to someone else and could give me some insight into getting the blenny back into the tank. Thanks.

It's happened to most of us at one time or another. I always simply reomove the standpipe and allow them to go for a ride into the sump. It's the simplest way IMO.

Oh and.....

You can also use a fly fishing hook to get him out. Bait it with Mysis shrimp

If it's an internal overflow, turn off the pump, add some water so water level is above the lip of the overflow, feed the tank and wait for him to swim out. If it's external, listen to patsfan's advice.

Thanks for the great ideas. I'll give it a try and let you know how it turns out.

I let my manderian go down the drain to the sump. he was a little shook up, but none the worse for the wear. I will say, now that he is back in the display tank. he stays all the way over to the right side of the tank. The overflow is on the left :D

could wait for lights out and then try to net him while he's snoozing.

I had a six line that made it all the way down to the sump on his own and I retrieved him from there.

My tank was used and the standpipe was glued down. So after countless failures trying to net him, he finally made it down into the sump where he could easily be retrieved.

Anytime I have this happen I just stick a net in the overflow and when I feed the fish daily I just drop some of the food into the net. It normally takes a few days for the training to occur, but once it does the fish starts eating out of the net even with you looking right at it. Once they are trained just feed and pull the net up.

Remember they are just a fish.
