Does anyone have any information on these? I searched but can not find many references. Are they rare in the hobby?

They are great corals. Not that hard to keep. They are photosynthetic and will eat most types of meaty foods (they close up around the food like palys). I bought a 6 headed frag about 2 months ago and it is already growing 2 new heads.
Here are some sites where you can find them and some info on them.

they are uncommon, but not "rare." Nice hardy corals

$100 a head!?! If I were you I would order a frag from one of the online vendors (I bought a 6 head frag for about $60) and then sell it to the fish store "cheap" say 50$ a head. lol

um...those are just duncans, pretty common in my area. My LFS sells them for $10 per head. They just happen to be one of my favorite corals...but not worth anywhere close to $100 a head!

Yup... $300 for 3 heads at my LFS. They even labled it as "rare."
They're an overpriced store with half the employees not knowing their husbandry.

Sounds like some of the LFS around here. Sad....

I have a nice colony I grew from just 2 heads, it took less than a year. It is approx. 12 heads now. IMO pretty easy to keep, just feed it and it will grow.

that is retarded/. I have 3 colonies over 40 polyps each. 10 bucks a polyp seems more resonable.

Duncans grow like weeds, feed them and they will grow. I purchased 2 headsfrom my LFS 6 months ago for $15/head, and now there is over 20 heads (including babies). $100 a head is insane, ask your LFS where they get this "rare" price tag from.

I got a nice size duncan with...10 larger heads and I keep seeing babies everywhere. Probably at least 5 babies. :)- 50.53 plus shipping (spread out over the rest of my order came out to like 1 dollar a coral).

To the OP, are you sure you're not talking about Dendros? Duncans are exactly as pictured and described as above, and I was able to purchase them for $10/head.
Dendros are somewhat similar in appearance (I guess..) but are much brighter orange, and are a bit different in overall shape.
Dendros will demand the high price tags, like $100/polyp though. Maybe your LFS has them confused?
Here's a pic:
