I just got the gonipora last week. It was looking great and then the other night it closed up. Hasn't opened for 2 days now. I did add some atinic lights that night. It freaked the fish out and I don't know if that would have anything to do with it. I haven't turned them back on since. I also noticed an emerald crab last night messing with them. I tried feeding the last night with no luck.

How's the flow in the area where you have it sitting? Some of them like low flow, and some like indirect high flow. It could also be too much lighting.

Not an expert but it has to be water parameters. Also I feed DT's once in a while to give them something in a size that they can consume...I think.

I would check the parameters. I have two in mine. One is alot pickier than the other one,for whatever reason. Think it just likes a certain amount of flow and if it is just barely too much for it than it will close down.

Water parameters all checked out fine. My nitrates were some where between 0-5. Hard to tell on the test kit sometimes. The flow is low in that location. It could be a light issue. I have 400 watt mh but it is low in the tank.

Try shading it under some live rock. Usually, red gonis can handle the lighting. But perhaps it's not used to your's just yet.

I just got the gonipora last week.
That sucks, you should go see the doc and he'll give you some pills to take care of that ;)

Do a water change.

Ok. I put a monti over it and it looked a little better today. I think it might just need time to acclimate to the light. I also did a water change tonight so hopefully it comes around this week. Thanks for the advice.

Get your mg tested and keep it up. That is what causing the most problems with goniopora. Magnesium test kits can be expensive but heres what you do. Test it in the morning before the lights come on. As long as its above 1300 your good. Then test it in the evening. Mark the difference and dose each night to replace the difference to keep your mg in check. Repeat the two tests after adding 2-3 new corals to the tank to see if you need to up your dosage. Magnesium isnt the cheapest thing either but in this hobby what is cheap?

I think it was a light aclimation issue. They looked great today.
