I am in the process of setting up a new reef tank and the last piece of equipment that I need is the light. On my 75 gallon reef I have the Current USA Outer Orbit HQI (Model 1042, 48", 2 x 150 watt MH, 2 x 130 watt Dual Actinic 460nm/420nm, 6 moonlights, 560 total watts). I love this light and was thinking about getting the model 1079, 72", 250w HQI/T5 HO model for my new tank.

I was wondering though if anyone knows if there is a better "complete" lighting system out there for the money? These lights have also been discontinued...does anyone know why?

I read on one of these boards that they were getting geared up for the switch to LEDs. Although I'm not sure I believe that since there's no official talk about it.

But I agree with you on the fixture. I have the 24" 150/4x24 outer orbit fixture. Absolutely love it. If I ever set the 90 or 120 up again I'll go with a 48in version.

I have the 48'' Mh/T5 combo on my 75g RR mixed reef and I really like it. I got it used for a steal compared to what they go for new. I think for a standard 75g tank, the 150w Mh version is fine, especially with the 216w of T5's. If you used some ATI Blue+ bulbs with some Super Actinics, that should be all the PAR you need. I also use 10K Mh bulbs. I get insane growth right now, with good growth.

Go with the 2x 250 model

That model is only 48" long, my tank is 72"
