I know this had been posted before but I have searched and can not find it. I also looked in the owners manual but no luck. What is the dimensions and polarity of the plug for the 12v adapter for the APEX?
Thanks

Thank you sir, I am going to build a battery pack for backup in case of a power outage and need to goto Radio Shack to pick up parts.

I also wanted to build a battery backup but I was hoping someone could answer a couple of questions for me.
If I just have the battery pack plugged into the apex's auxiliary power input, then will it drain the batteries even if the primary power is on?
If so, can I resolve this by wiring in a relay and external power cord? So the relay would be closed when there is no power from the power cord.

That's a good question. I think it was discussed way back that the supply that has the highest output is the one used by the APEX. Can someone verify if this is correct?

Does it matter any if the Aux Power supply for the Apex is more than 500 MA? I know typically DC will only use the Amps it needs but I wanted to make sure its ok.

The amperage rating on power supplies refers to capacity. These power supplies do not "force" a device to draw the rated current. Yes, if all the other ratings are correct you can use a power supply that has a higher amperage rating - but not the other way around.

Did you have any success building a pack? Wondering how fast it would drain the batteries?

I went to Radio Shack to get the supplies and of course they were out of about everything I needed so I have not gotten around to building the battery pack.
I set one up last night with an 8 AA battery holder from Radio Shack.
Tested it, and it ran fine off the battery pack.

My question is if there is power being supplied to the display from both the EB8 and the battery pack which one is being used?

Power is drawn from the highest voltage source.

That's what I thought, so I wonder how long the batteries will last and how will you know when they die?

My 'guess' is that a battery would be drawn down until the EB8 was supplying more voltage and then the batteries would last until a power outage...
IMO; a small UPS would be better than batteries.
