I've read about these guys and apparently they dont do very well in tanks only because theres not enough food in the substrate for them. I was wondering how come you cant squirt some frozen into the sand and let them sift it out?

because sometimes they don't actually eat it. They eat micro fauna living in the sand and can deplete a good sized sandbed in a short ammount of time. I have seen a few adapt to prepared foods but they don't seem to really thrive without a good established live sandbed. I would not reccomend one for any tank under 75g and under 8mths old.

Exactly. Frozen food is terrific but is not so very much for animals which will graze on live food as their primary nutrition source.
