Is it possible to "over skim"? By that I mean, is it better to have a bigger skimmer than what is rated for your tank? Or, should one stick to the manufacturer's suggestion?
Thanks,
Russ

No I always use a bigger skimmer. I take the rating and divide it in half.

Buy a larger skimmer than you think you will need.

Why?

I think the manufacturer's suggestion is based on tank size not how it is stocked. There is alot more then size of tank that comes into play. Small fish vrs large fish/eels or corals needing clean water. I would go with larger or at least one with a good reputation.

I agree with what they are saying. Skimmer specs are usually on the light side. Always
buy a larger skimmer, you always add more livestock then subtrack what you start with.
