I dont know anywhere else to get it in those quantities. If you get the whole kit, I think it makes 8 gallons each of calc and alk, and than like 2 gallons of mag. It could be 7,7and 4 gallons though. either way that is a lot of supplement.

Even if it went up a little its still going to be much cheaper than any where else. Except maybe the DIY 2 part.

But are you sure the quantities didn't just change? Because they don't offer the 1# HC GFO anymore. The smallest is 2# so I thought the price went up also until I realized it was just more quantity.

Go to the Reef Chemistry Forum. You will find it in there.

I think BRS is one of the best places to get bulk Ca and Alk at a good price.

You could either participate in a group buy or obtain preferred customer status, which will reduce costs.

I am thinking about trying to get a group buy started in my local club - it only requires 10 participants, they can be located anywhere because everything is shipped directly to the buyer...

Just a thought.

Randy's DIY recipe can be found here (http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2006-02/rhf/index.php).

No sense in paying for shipping of the Alk product from BRS. You can just use Arm & Hammer baking soda from the grocery store for the Sodium Bicarbonate. If you want Soda Ash you just need to bake the baking soda like Randy indicates in the article. I pick up the 14lb sacks from Sams for like 6 bucks.

The thing that keeps me using BRS is the dificulty in finding calcium chloride locally. Every hardware store here carries some sort of ice melt but they all have lots of additives that I dont want in my tank. The diy alk part is a no brainer

Ill keep looking locally too cause most ice melt products are under $10 for 50#.
