I'm glad you started a thread for this because soon I will be building a canopy for mine. Right now I'm just trying to figure out how to skin out the steel stand that my tank came with!

Try doing a a search for custom canopy or diy canopy. This should get you some ideas though.

Personally I did one for mine and I am replacing it with a hanging light. It is just a pain if you need to do any maintenance inside the tank.

Thanks for the link. I can't wait to get some good ideas from that one. I was trying to figure out a way to have the entire canopy hooked in to ball bearings so that I could slide it to either side while I'm doing maintenance.

I was trying to find the one that was a welded frame and the front and top were on a gas strut that opened like a bifold door, I have to say it was the nicest canopy I have seen. I've been searching for the build on it but am having little luck

I have 3 seperate 150Mh fixtures that are not very wide from front to back. My tank is 72" long and I plan on putting a 4x39w 36" T5 retro kit where all the bulbs will be on individual reflectors. I want to put 2 on the back side of the MHs and 2 on the front side of the MHs. Now I have to build a canopy.

Anyone done this config?

Tanttang clown, I have seen the config you are speaking of. I don't see why you can't do it, but it just depends on how big you want and can make your canopy.

Sparx22631, I don't see a problem with mounting them right to the wood. I guess it depends on how you have to mount them. Good luck.

Nice Stands. I was wondering if anyone had any experience putting hinges on the "long" side of one of their aquariums. To get the most access to my sump I was trying to figure out a way to have one whole side essentially open up. Any ideas or advice? I was also thinking of putting my canopy on a track so that I could slide it from one side to the other . I think this would make aquarium maintenance easier to do. Thanks for all the help!

Thanks. I should be able to get started on the canopy today as my T5s should be on my porch when I get home from work

The only question I have is what type of wood is everyone using for their canopies? Just regular plywood? I assume untreated? If so I can knock this right out.
