Hi All,
I found this little guy on my rocks this morning and was wondering if someone could confirm its identity, and if it is okay in my reef tank or not. I'm leaning towards an Asterina Star, but I don't recall seeing one as big as this one. Then again, I am pretty new at this so I really have no frame of refference. It is about a 1/2 inch accross, has seven legs, and is a blotchy grey color.

Let me know what you think. Thanks.

Confirmed asterina. Some would call them pestilent. I remove them whenever possible. In plague proportions, a harlequin shrimp will eliminate them with prejudice.

Take Care

Thanks Landlord. I pretty much figured, but just wanted to make sure.

Appreciate it.

Yep asterina. As landlord said. These tend to multiply rapidly in some tanks. Take it out or leave it is up to you. I started with one also. i have hundreds now......

I have them in my tank but they are tiny and have not multiplied very much. I have on ein my sump though that is a little smaller then a quarter. I think they are great scavengers

They are pests and possible coral killers, remove them imo its not worth the risk.

They do eat corraline and can multiply quickly.
