I have a Magnavore Berliner WD-125 sump with a Coralife SuperSkimmer 220 and an Eheim 1262 return pump. The pump returns through Eheim flexible tubing with an Eheim spraybar kit #2 on the rim of the tank.

I have been debating the best spraybar configuration for a hex. Right now I have it horizontal but I was thinking about doing a vertical setup to create a giant swirling effect in the hexagon... Thoughts? The Eheim spraybar kit #2 is very nice...

I run activated carbon and nitrate remover in the blue media cannisters in the sump.

Eheim is so awesome, here is a link to the manufacturer's page on the spraybar kit (second product down):
http://www.eheim.com/base/eheim/inhalte/index96a2.html?key=liniendetail_27655_ehen

Like I said I have it on the output of my 1262 and it handles it no problem.

And there is a little cap that easily unscrews to break the siphon right away when you shutoff the return pump. You can also remove this cap to run an Eheim flexible brush down your return hose to clean it! Eheim rocks!

Nice clean tank. I love the blue mushrooms. Give the vertical spraybar a try, I'm not sure you'll make much difference but it wouldn't hurt to give it a shot.

The vertical spray bar to create a gyre is a good idea. However, the spray bar may not create enough force to do it. If not, try a simple nozzle on the end, pointed in the direction that you want the water to spin. If you can get the top half spinning, the bottom half will also because of the friction between the water molecules. A gyre is actually a pretty efficient way of moving a large amount of water.

Well with the 1262 pumping through it I think it does create a substantial force. Do you think the gyre effect would keep everything in suspension forever? I am trying to find a way to get things to go to the overflow. Right now the clown is always digging in the sand and the particles stay in suspension for a long time, hours and hours it seems.

You probably need some kind of upward flow, that could be easier to get with a nozzle rather than a spray bar. If you point the nozzle down and across the glass, than the flow will come up the other side. Also a powerhead to augment about half way down pointed up and with the gyre could do a lot to help with that.
