I'm considering a Cannon Rebel. Seems like a nice camera for the money. Anyway, while reading reviews, someone listed lens creep as a con. What is lens creep?

Lens creep, is the tendency of a zoom lens to change on it's own. i.e. you point the camera down and the lens barrel extends. If a function of a poorly made lens and has nothing to do with the camera body.

The 28-135 IS is notorious for that.

I can also confirm that the 28-135 IS USM is the WORST creeper I have ever seen. It's still a good lens, and produces good images. But you just have to be aware, that gravity, or even moving forward or back can cause the zoom to change.

The happiest experience I ever had with that lens was selling it.

Maybe it is just my inexperience, i don't have any L glass to compare to. But I been happy with the results so far, and does almost as good as the 100mm USM macro (when NOT doing macro shots, even with extension tubes the lens is worthless for macro)

I have been looking for a new lens, something that is faster and still IS....any recommendations beer guy?

No worries. Plenty of folks use, and like that lens. I couldn't stand it but that might just be me.

The 24-105 is a pretty good replacement for it. It's sharp, small and reasonably priced for an L lens.

How is an L lens different from say a 28-135 IS USM?

The biggest disappointment with my current point & shoot digital camera is the lag time when I take a picture. At least a couple seconds.

Have any of the DSLRs eliminated or almost eliminated lag time?

Lag time for virtually all DSLRs is zero. That's a point and shoot thing.

"L" in Canon lenses stands for Luxury. They are Canon's professional line. The lens has much more impact on image quality than the camera body once you get to a DSLR.
