I've seen many people build rock walls with egg crate, foam, epoxy, etc, and I think I want to try. My question is is it okay to place in an established tank or is that going to cause a mini cycle. Thanks in advance for any input.

I am interested in this as well. What type of epoxy?

I'm not sure yet what I am going to use, but some people have used z-pozy found on Amazon.

I doubt it would cause a mini cycle. Mini cycle comes from die off. There is nothing to die on foam.

Many types of foam can be sculpted with a hot knife. Good luck. You can buy big sheets of eps foam at home depot. I bet that would work great.

depends on whether or not you add small pieces of live rubble in the epoxy-use pond foam

foam=== the good stuff, you can buy that at home depot.

the catch is DO NOT GET THIS STUFF on you. Its worse that super glue.

Hey JK75, when you do it, be sure to document it! I have thought about doing the same thing and would love to see what your ideas are. :)

I'd say that you probably won't get a mini cycle but your skimmer might go nuts.

Make sure to give it a couple of days to fully cure out and finish off-gassing. One of our local reefers put his new foam structure in the tank too soon and killed a lot of stuff.
