Hi this may be a stupid question but I have recently set up and moved all my fish from a 29BC and 16nano into one very large 330, the question is I have a pretty big maroon clown that loves to swim across the surface of the new tank like he is a combination michael phelps / Jaws it doesn't really bother me but he does it like a nervous tick? the tank has about 600 lbs of LR so there are plenty of places to hide. He is not currently hosting anything so i thought this may be the reason for the odd behavior or something else that he is lacking? Or maybe this is just normal? His tank mates currently include an engineer goby, lawnmower blenny, fox face, yellow tang, pygmy angel, blue damsel, and a mated set of black onyx clowns they are currently hosting my frogspawn, The maroon is one of the largest fish in the tank so i wouldn't think he was nervous? any ideas is this normal?

Completely new environment for him and is probably just adjusting. They call them clowns for a reason :) I am sure he is fine.

just give him/her time to get use to the tank.

Well he seems like he is loving it, i was just worried that maybe there was more to it. it is actually quite comical it reminds me of a kid with new "fast" running shoes, he chills for couple of seconds then starts out slowly, then goes really fast, then done, then the same back to the other side of the tank.

it likes all the room to stretch its fins.

I had a tricinctus that used to do the same thing.

My clown does this also especially during feeding time or when I come towards the tank. It's been going on ever since I got him/her from the LFS about 4 months ago. I think it is normal and hysterical how they seem to be so excited and like you said a kid with their new "fast" shoes.

When I got my false perc, he swam laps across the top for a few day. I wouldn't worry about it if he's eating.

yeah everything is cool just odd behavior but he was in a 29 before so maybe he has done it all along just now has further to go?

Actually, if Jaws has been without any other maroon clowns this whole time he's probably actually a she. ;)

I agree--probably just enjoying the new bigger quarters. Clownfish do weird things all the time. Most of the time I think they do them just to make their owners worry. :p
