so i just aquired a 75gal from a friend. the tank was running for about 2 years before i got it, i got it w/ no fish or corals. i have about 80lbs of live rock. i plan on leaving the tank livestock free until after x-mas. last night i came home & turned the lights on & i found about a dozen small white worms on the lr. they are about 1-2mm long they move very fast, they kind of look like very small fast magots. i am not sure what thease are & dont know what i can do about them. i would like to start stocking after x-mas but i have a feeling they may be a problem for corals & or inverts. please help. i was thinking flat worms but i was told they dont move fast. thanks for your time.

There are an incredible number of creatures you will see at night after the lights go out! I have similar white bugs but have never had a problem with them per se.

i understand. i am just trying to find out if thease little buggers feed on coral. the guy i got the tank from did not have very good luck with the corals he had put in. im just wondering if these guys might have been part of his problem & i dont want to think about an RO dip on the live rock after livestock additions. i will try to get a pic tonight, but like i said they are very fast. i had a 36gal reef for about 3 years. between the tank, books & this site i have learned alot but i have not herd of these before, just trying to be safe.:fish1::fish1:

Do you have anything trying to eat them? Mandarin etc?

Sounds like copepods or amphipods. Wait until you start seeing bristleworms and peanut worms they I freaked out the first time I saw some although they too are good.

Here's a couple more. You'll have to adjust the delay to your preference though, ten seconds can last a long time.

+1 for pods, which most all little creatures in your tank will be good.

Just post pics and we will know for sure.

Yup - your description is right on with copepods ('pods'). They move pretty fast, and are usually seen on the rocks or sand during the non-lighting time. If that is what you have - AMEN!! At some point in time, you can get a mandarin which loves the pods!
