I think it really all depends on your viewing time.

I run just halides with no other accent lighting such as actinic.
So my halides come on at 2:30 pm and off at 10:30 pm.
That gives me a little time at the end of the evening to see the tank under moonlights.

I also run a refugium under reverse lighting to help boost PH during the night.

On at 1:00 am and off at 11:00 am.

whatever works for you and your corals. i do a 10-12hr light cycle. 10hrs in the winter and 12hrs in the summer. I'm about to change tank lighting schedules soon. i had all three of my tanks on 10-12hrs cycles. all on at 8am and all off at 8pm. now I'm going to have my 120g in wall tank come on at 11am and off around 11pm. i watch this tank the most since its in my bedroom wall. 30g tank on from 8am to 8pm, 75 sps tank 10am to 9pm.

I have been doing some reading here on RC I am deployed right now and am coming home in a little like 2 weeks I am going to be running 3 250W MH and 2 110W VHOs my MH bulbs are the 250W hamilton 14k SE bulbs and for the VHO bulbs I am going to be running the URI super atenics.
I am going to try running the atenics for 12 hours with 5 hours of the MH a day.

10 a.m.- atenics come on
1 p.m.-MH come on
6 p.m.-MH go off
10 p.m.-atenics go off

I have been reading alot about people having good results with shorter MH lighting times. So I am going to give it a try on my new tank.
good luck to you.

Most have shown that as soon as corals reach light saturation, no need for more light. With average to high flow this happens between 6-8 hours. I run mine at 6 for halides and my pc at 8-9 hours.

Good luck,

Moon Lights go on at 8.30am and off at 9.45am.
MH come on at 9.30am and back off again at 6pm.
Moon Lights come on at 5.45pm and off again at 7pm.

We might change the times to see the tank more at night with the lights on but the length of time will stay roughly the same!!!
