i noticed that my clown fish the other day had sort of reddish gills and was not his peppy old self. i kind of started to worry a little bit but not too much cause he is still eating. then today i came home from work and noticed one of his gills was a little swollen. my black clown picks on him a little bit so i thought that it could have been from him, but i am not sure and nothing i have research is telling me anything useful. so some help please! i really do not want to loose this little guy. sorry for the pics it is kind of hard to shoot a clown fish that thinks it is feeding time.

it is definitely his skin that is swollen and not a visible parasite so any help would be wonderful thanks

could be a bacterial infection.
I would say increase feeding if your filter allows.

Oh nooooo!:sad2: Check your water chemistry. If the chemistry is fine, I would take the poor guy out from the display tank and into a quarantine tank. Treat it with medication from your reef/pet store. You might add something to help promote your fishes slime coat as well. Bacterial infection...Hummm. When was your last water change? Good luck.

I wouldn't take him out just yet, that can be pretty stressful and might make things worse. I would do as PaxRoma said, increase feedings and keep a close eye on him. Sometimes bacterial infections can come and go but I wouldn't do anything rash unless it worsens.

i did a water change on tuesday and i noticed it before that. all of my levels are fine. mag 1320, cal 450, alk 9.5, nitrate o, and phosphates 0, sal 1.023. i would not take him out of the tank as that can be extremely stressful, but if it does get worse i will have too. i really do hope it is just a bacterial infection with some inflammation.

You have two different kinds of clown fish in one tank?

That's fine. Judging by the purple tang, I am assuming the tank is over 100 gallons anyway.

It's generally not a good idea to mix clown species in a tank unless you're willing to risk violence between the two. This doesn't look like a would caused by the black and white ocellaris though.
