Or anything for that matter such as GFO?

I think you can still use GFO. If you don't have a phosphate prob, then I wouldn't use GFO. If you do, go for it.

yep you can mix vodka with activated carbon and or even GFO. even though vodka is a carbon base it's not activated carbon. don't get those confused.

what does carbon do that vodka can't?

activated carbon AC (the black granulars) and vodka (carbon sourse) doesn't do the same thing. Vodka removes nitrates and phosphates. AC removes colors, odors, organic pollutants, toxic compounds and medications. totally 2 seperate applications.

Agreed, two totally entirely different things. Try doing some searches and read some of the many articles out there BEFORE you start dosing VSV(vodka sugar vinegar) and be sure to understand it completely.

To answer your question, yes, you can run GAC(granular activated carbon), while dosing vinegar.

what about while dosing vodka? it seems like the carbon would take up the carbon source?

Activated carbon simply binds chemicals. It is not going to eat up any carbon source at all.

it doesn't effect it.
