OK, I got a clam for my xmas gift yesterday from my buddy ! It was a rescue because he bought it from somebody who was not taking care of it at all.

This morning the clam was almost fully detached from the rock so now he is moving a lot and I don't know what to do ..... Please I need some advice

Sorry for the poor quality pictures ... will try to do some better ones later.

If somebody can tell me too what kind of clam it is ?

Thank you

vincent

it looks like a crocea. they need a lot of light and like to be attached to a rock. if you can put a small flat ruck under it to attach to you then can move it around after it attaches.

Imo it looks like a Blue maxima. Hard to tell from the picx. http://www.liveaquaria.com/diversden/ItemDisplay.cfm?c=2733+1&ddid=75935

The clam is just moving probly to find a better lighting position that it likes, and that is normal. However Imo I would take a soft bristled tooth brush and gently brush the green hair alge of its mantle. If not the crabs may anoy the clam and keep it from opening. This will keep the crabs form crawling all over the clam. Which will make clam open and get good light. You might want to get some phyto pankton, live would be better, and squirt the clam with it. I would turn off the pumps when I do this so the clam can suck in the phyto, and its realy cool to watch. Good luck.

+1 on being either a crocea or maxima. Looks like a maxima. Doesn't matter, they have very similar care requirements. Maxima gets bigger, but not ginourmous.

+1 on the phyto as well.

"a soft bristled tooth brush and gently brush the green hair alge of its mantle"
We tryed to remove the hair alge with a tooth brush and by hand but it is unlike any I have ever seen. It is more like one of those green SOS pads it tares off like one too.

Sorry man, but it looks like you have a dead clam. Open, no movement = Going to die.
