Is fiberglass reef/fish safe?

I want to use fiberglass rods(1/4” dia) to hold my rock together. I am also going to drill through a rock and use the fiberglass rods to make a cave. I read this in a very popular fish book; however they talked about using solid PVC rods. I can’t find PVC rods anywhere! I had no problem finding, very strong, fiberglass rods at Home Depot.

Thanks in advance!

Fibergalss rods are fine and will cause no harm.

it sure is! just be sure to wash them well and scrub them down to ensure no loose paint or dirt flakes off into the tank.

I used acrylic rod to hold my rock its nice since the rod is clear and cant really be seen in the rockwork

Where did you get the acrylic rod? How strong is it? Would it hold a rock out to create a ledge?

I got it locally, its relatively cheap, i paid 5 bucks for a piece of 1/4" thats 6ft long, but its a little wobbly so next time im gonna use 1/2" and using that it shouldn't go anywhere, its pretty strong but i dont know what kind of structure your trying to create, the 3 big rocks are all made of 5-8 smaller rocks

Thanks! How easy did the rock drill? Did you use a masonry bit?
