A derassa should be fine, maybe a squamossa I think.

derasas want the sand bed, as do squammies. u prolly have enough light for a well placed crocea or maxi.

" crocea or maxi" these go on rocks , right?

yep. they like that.
first get them to attach to a small rock u place under the substrate, so it's easy to move them up on yr aquascaping.

so, place flat(ish) rock under the sand, place clam on top, let clam attach, then move to new location?

thanks again!

exactly.maybe just cover the roick w a layer of sand, not deep. might take a couple of days, or might be a few hours. no rush. i just ordered 2 clams and i'm gonna do exactly that in my qt.
BUT how do you have a mandarin AND a snowflake eel co existing?

I'd bet that a crocea or maxima would do fine even on the bottom under 250w 10000k lighting. I keep 2 crocea, one midway up in my 24" deep tank under 250w 20000k lights. It's doing fine, even recovering from 2 holes that a raccoon butterfly pecked in it (holes are gone now, as is the butterfly).

luck?
i don't think the snowflake has ever shown any interest in any of the fish...the real question is why he hasn't chomped the shrimp?
luck again, i guess!
i also added peppermint shrimp, which he did chomp on...
