Hello, I've been checking your site out lately and would really like to try a hard coral. I have 2 soft corals in my 20 gallon now. I'm just looking for some advice on what may do well under my lighting, it is 2 55 watt compact fluorescents (1 10K bulb, 1 actinic) over a 20 gallon long that is at most 12 inches deep. I've gotten lots of differing responses in different forums, but would like to hear some advice from someone in the biz. Thx for any help

Hi,
You should be able to keep some soft corals and maybe a few larger polyp stony corals, but I would not recommend a lot of the smaller polyp stony corals. Acropora and many other brightly colored stony corals will likely need more light to keep the coloration, some Montipora, Pocillopora, etc. may be OK. In general, I would recommend more light for most of these corals, you can try some frags and see how they do for you.
Thanks, Mac

In your opinion, would more lumes of PC light be effective (I've been thinking of adding another 55watts) or would I need halide lighting for SPS and LPS? Thanks for your help!
