How does one start the siphon on a single tube LifeReef overflow box? Also any thoughts on what kind of DIY for a silencer? Any thoughts links or pictures will be greatly appreciated.

Take some airline tubing stick it in the U-tube and suck the air out. May need to add some tank water to outside box. Also, I use a Hofer gurglebuster, you can search here or google it.

I have a lifereef overflow that I used with my tank and it gurgled alot. I haven't restarted my tank yet, but I am interesting in the Hofer gurgle buster. So please let me know how it works out once you build it and install it into your tank. Thanks.

Mine is pretty quite, more noise from the water going into the sump than the overflow itself.

One tip: Get it as silent as you can and leave it. After a few days, the coating will take care of the random gurgles that still occur

The gurgle buster you can order with them works great. Like was posted above, get it as quite as the can at first and the slime takes care of the rest.
